Marit Geraldine Bostad
Marit Geraldine Bostad (1976) is an artist who works and lives in Horten Vestfold County, Norway. She investigates themes such as the inner psyche, memories and human interaction through her series of abstract paintings.
Since 2016, Marit Geraldine has gained attention from curators and galleries both in Europe and the US. At the April 2017 TOAF London edition, Chief Curator Rebecca Wilson from Saatchi Art pointed out Marit Geraldine as one of her "4 must-see artists" out of the 120 emerging artists.
In July 2020 Marit Geraldine was honored to be among the 30 shortlisted artists chosen for the Ashurst Emerging Artist’s Prize. This achievement recognizes Marit Geraldine’s submission to the prize - a series of paintings evoking the light and nature of Ålesund, Norway a town where the artist spent her childhood summers surrounded by mountains and fjords. These paintings were previously part of Marit Geraldine’s solo exhibition “Utspring” at the KHAAK Kunsthall in Alesund, which featured nearly 40 abstract canvases.
In late 2019 Marit Geraldine exhibited at Scope Art Show in Miami Beach as well as participating in a group exhibition in Dubai, and debuting at the Affordable Art Fair with Mint Art Gallery in London. In May 2020, Marit Geraldine exhibited at her third show with Madelyn Jordan Fine Art in New York City as part of the Abstractly Speaking: Six + One exhibition, a cross-collection of seven abstract painters from 20th century post-war to current emerging contemporary artists. January 2021 Marit Geraldine exhibited again at Madelyn Jordon in New York, in the exhibition, Look Back, Look Forward.
February 2021 in the middle of the Pandemic, Marit Geraldine exhibited at Gulden Kunstverk in Norway. She had her biggest solo show to date there, HOPE ISLAND, featuring about 50 paintings. Norwegian Press Release I Catalog
Marit Geraldine renewed her connection with the outside world in a freer approach to abstraction and the result was a series of paintings that form the core of the exhibition Hope Island. “Hope is necessary for the world to move forward while everyone adapts, learning a new way of being and navigating through the new realities of life after the pandemic”.
In 2023 Marit Geraldine had her Second Solo with Gulden Kunstverk titled “A Meeting with the Unknown” In London, she also had a big Solo Show at the prestigious Club called 67 Pall Mall and she´s done numerous group shows in Norway and internationally.
